1966

British Groups could have been classified as follows :-

The "Cabaret" Groups who used Session Musicians
Freddie & The Dreamers (they may have played on their first couple of hits)
Dave Dee
Merseybeats
Hermans & The Hermits (Mickey Most used Session Musicians)
Love Affair (famously used Session Musicians although they were competent musicians)
Dave Clark Five (certainly drummer Bobby Graham was used extensively)
Marmalade
The Fortunes
Wayne Fontana & The Mindbenders
Brian Poole & The Tremeloes (Brian Poole denies Session Musician involvement)

The "Cabaret" Groups who didn't use Session Musicians
Hollies (unless somebody knows otherwise)
The Searchers (although BJS was on a couple of albums)

The Beat Groups who used Session Musicians
Them (while Drummer Bobby Graham's involvement is not doubted
there is a mystery about contributions made by other Session Musicians)
Chris Farlowe & The Thunderbirds

The Beat Groups who didn't use Session Musicians
Manfred Mann (although they used BJS on later recordings)
Small Faces (although BJS played on a small number of records)
Spencer Davis Group
Moody Blues
Jimmy Page joined The Yardbirds in June.
(there was less demand for Session Guitarists)
(Alan Parker replaced Jimmy)

In this year BJS played on 28 Top Ten Records (including 5 Number Ones).
