In the first four years of the Seventies BJS worked with Tom Jones.
He then created a Record Label called "Retreat", managed an American Glam Rock Band called "Angel" and fronted a Band called "Tiger". (unfortunately none of these ventures were commercially successful) BJS's Finest Moments were from 1964 until the end of the Sixties when England became the Centre for Popular Music. (he turned Good Material into Great Records) (weak material became acceptable) This was due to his Inventive Guitar Breaks. (inspired by Country Guitarists such as Merle Travis, Chet Atkins, Jerry Reed) (and James Burton) BJS created one hit purely with his inventiveness :- (Dave Berry's "Crying Game" - 1964) BJS played a central role on a couple of hits such as :- (Freddie & the Dreamers' "I Love You Baby" - 1964) (Simon Scott's "Move It Baby" - 1964) On other occasions BJS enhanced guitar parts :- (Brian Poole & The Tremeloes, Johnny Kidd & The Pirates) Having said that BJS could create great guitar parts very quickly and accurately. (guitars had to be played forcibly to be heard on records) He was, in this period, UK's Most Accomplished Guitarist. By the end of the Sixties the "Cabaret" Groups were no longer having hits and other Groups were playing on their own records. (BJS's dominance in the Recording Studio had come to an end) In the 1970s BJS was not UK's Number One Guitarist. (These were David Gilmour, Steve Howe, Ritchie Blackmore, Jeff Beck) He joined James Last in 1979. In this decade BJS played on 44 Top Ten Records (including 10 Number Ones & 8 Number Twos). For more details please view BJS's Wikipedia page and the "Bands" Section of this Website. |
